New 2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Revealed With Updated Design – Its 2022 Mazda CX-5 made an early debut just a couple of weeks ago in China when pictures from the Chinese version of it were released in MIIT. Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) as part of the homologation process for the crossover. This year, its North American cousin is being presented today, sporting similar modifications to the design, but not immediately apparent at first glance.

Take a closer look and you’ll find the taillight and headlight clusters have been upgraded to include a pair of rectangular LED lights that provide Mazda North America’s best-selling vehicle an improved appearance. The Zoom-Zoom designers altered the front grille, giving the appearance of a 3D-like design to match the mesh style of 2021’s CX-5.
Engine Specs
It’s no longer the Grand Touring Reserve model as it will be replaced in 2022 by the brand new 2.5 turbo model. Mazda states that models with turbocharged engines come with distinct styling changes to differentiate them from naturally-aspirated CX-5. The trim is glossy black pieces on the exterior, as well as red accents and stitching on the interior. Moving up to the 2.5 Turbo Signature gives a more sophisticated appearance that features body-colored wheel arches as well as alloy wheels that shine in silver. Interior, Mazda has fitted posh materials such as real woodgrain or Nappa leather to enhance the CX-5’s status as a luxury SUV. The CX-5 also has a brand new drive select button, which Mazda calls Mi-Drive, and new seats that are said to provide more comfort.
There’s more to the CX-5 than what is apparent in 2022. The CX-5 is equipped with a more responsive six-speed automated transmission, which delivers a more smooth acceleration. In addition, the compact SUV is now equipped with an upgraded suspension that can help reduce road noise and reduce vibrations due to a brand new dampening control structure as well as a more rigid frame. Another major update is AWD being offered as a standard feature across the entire range. In the fact that Mazda has announced AWD as standard on every CX model in the future. From the compact CX-30 to the larger CX-9 every SUV that Mazda sells across North America will have an all-paw system, including the basic trim.

It’s worth noting Mazda has already confirmed the next-generation CX-5 will be an entirely different vehicle by switching to a new rear-wheel-drive-based platform with inline-six engines. It’s not clear when the new version will be unveiled however it could take some time to make it to the US market as the model that’s currently in production has been modified.
