I have a friend with one. She had the car repainted a few years ago and the rust started reforming almost immediately. I don't know about newer models, but I have seen a few older Mazda 3s with good amounts of rust around the rear wheel arches. I've only heard about this problem on Proteges and older Mazda 3s so it may not exist on other Mazdas.

There still isn't any visible rust on the body. The previous owner must've taken great care of cleaning out the wheel wells. That's what I'll be doing with my new-to-me 2011 3i. I've seen a ton of Subarus with half the miles already bleeding rust where the bumper meets the wheel wells.
